Service Description

Biomarker: CTNL Sample: BLOOD Results: 2 HRS Phlebotomy fee: £10.00 CTNL test measures the levels of troponin in the blood. Troponin is a protein that is found in the heart muscle. When the heart muscle is damaged, troponin is released into the bloodstream. A cardiac troponin test is used to diagnose a heart attack. A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to the heart is blocked, which can damage or kill heart muscle cells. Troponin levels start to rise within 3 to 6 hours after a heart attack and can remain elevated for up to 10 days. A cardiac troponin test can also be used to diagnose other conditions that can damage the heart muscle, such as: -- Myocarditis: This is an inflammation of the heart muscle. -- Cardiomyopathy: This is a disease of the heart muscle that can weaken the heart and make it difficult to pump blood. -- Heart valve disease: This is a condition that can damage the heart valves, which can interfere with the flow of blood through the heart. The symptoms of a heart attack can include: -- Chest pain: This is the most common symptom of a heart attack. The pain is usually sharp and can feel like pressure or squeezing in the chest. -- Shortness of breath: This is another common symptom of a heart attack. -- Nausea and vomiting: These symptoms can occur with a heart attack, but they are not as common as chest pain and shortness of breath. -- Light-headedness or dizziness: These symptoms can occur if the heart is not getting enough blood. -- Sweating: This is a common symptom of a heart attack, especially in women.
