eNOS Polymorphism 786 T>C
Get insights into your cardiovascular health, one gene at a time.
Service Description
Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS) is an enzyme that is involved in the production of nitric oxide (NO), which helps to regulate blood vessel function and blood pressure. This test uses PCR-Hybridization to detect the 786 T>C polymorphism in the eNOS gene which is a common genetic variation that has been associated with changes in eNOS activity and nitric oxide production. The polymorphism involves the substitution of the nucleotide thymine (T) with cytosine (C) at position -786 base pairs upstream of the transcription start site of the eNOS gene. The 786 T>C polymorphism may be associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and other vascular disorders due reduced NO production. Knowledge of an individual's eNOS genotype may be useful in assessing overall disease risk and guiding personalized recommendations for lifestyle changes and medical interventions to reduce risk. Additionally, eNOS testing may be recommended in certain circumstances, such as for individuals with a family history of cardiovascular disease or hypertension.
